James Arthur Vineyards (JAV) is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2007. This makes it a perfect year for you to book a relaxing getaway in honor of an anniversary, a birthday, or any special event.

Your celebration begins with a visit to JAV near Raymond. The rolling hills and prairie grasslands north of Lincoln are perfect for growing grapes. Grapevines love the rocky, sandy soil. Underground water helps feed the 9,000 vines, which grow 20–25 feet a year. Even the famous Nebraska wind plays a hand in growing grapes by blowing away unwanted intruders.

Guests can wander the grounds; taste specialty wines, cheeses, meats, and breads; and take a tour of the wine-making facility. Two of JAV’s wines, Edelweiss and Vignoles, were recently distinguished as the “Best of the East” by Vineyard and Winery Management Magazine. You’ll want to put those award-winning wines on your shopping list!

After relaxing at the winery, head for downtown Lincoln. Make a stop at the State Capitol, ride the elevator up to the pinnacle, take a tour, or meander on your own, taking in the beautiful art and architecture. From there, Billy’s Restaurant is a one-block stroll or select a meal at Beacon Hill in North Lincoln. Billy’s is a casual yet elegant restaurant that’s tucked into a historic 1887 home. It’s known for its diverse menu specialties including steak, lamb, duck, veal, seafood, and delicious vegetarian dishes. Beacon Hill also has a fine selection of food, including many excellent seafood dishes. They are known for having the best crab cakes in town!
